Family meal planners, honestly compared

Every family meal planner is good at something. Some are brilliant recipe organisers, some build a budget plan around your supermarket, and some have a recipe library the size of a small country. Bite Club is good at one particular thing: getting a whole household, picky eaters included, to agree on what's for dinner.

Download Bite Club on the App Store

Below is how Bite Club compares with the apps people most often ask us about, including Mealime (which closes on 21 October 2026), mise, Paprika, Samsung Food and Plan to Eat. We've tried to be fair, used each company's own website, help pages and App Store listing, and noted when we checked. If another app suits your family better, we'd genuinely rather you used that.

Checked October 2026. Prices and features change, so check each provider's site for current terms.

Checked 4 October 2026 using each provider's website, help centre and App Store listing (US and UK). Prices include VAT where shown in £. Features can differ by country and change over time. Mealime, mise, Paprika, Samsung Food and Plan to Eat are trademarks of their owners. Bite Club isn't affiliated with any of them.

US visitors: Ollie for Meals is best for hands-off, AI-planned family meals in the US. It has a 1-month free trial, then a subscription (prices in the app). Available on iPhone, iPad and Android, it plans automatically with AI-written recipes, a grocery list with Instacart, Walmart or Amazon Fresh, and is described as "perfect for picky eaters". Not currently available on the UK App Store.

Switching from another app?

Switching from Mealime

Mealime closes on 21 October 2026, and its recipes move to Meals Hub inside Albertsons Companies' grocery apps. Mealime says personal data will be deleted at closure, and it doesn't offer an export. So before the 21st, jot down (or screenshot) the meals your family actually cooks on repeat. In Bite Club, add those as House Meals, set everyone's likes and dislikes, and press one button to plan the week around them. There's no automatic import, so we'd suggest starting with your top ten. Switching from mise

mise is great at fast, budget-friendly plans built around UK supermarkets, and if a weekly cost estimate is what you need most, it does that well. Bite Club is built for a different headache: a household where one person won't touch mushrooms, another's gone vegetarian, and the youngest only eats beige. Everyone sets their own tastes, every meal gets a Club Score for the whole family, and anyone can suggest dinner for a vote. Bite Club is free to download, and Bite Bot is optional.

Switching from Paprika

Paprika is one of the best-loved recipe managers around, and if you have hundreds of saved recipes, it's hard to beat. Bite Club isn't a recipe manager and can't import your collection. It's for the deciding part. It comes with 3,000+ meal ideas, scores them against everyone's tastes, and builds the week in one tap. Plenty of families could happily use both: Paprika for the recipe box, Bite Club for "what are we having this week?"

Switching from Samsung Food

Samsung Food has an enormous recipe library, saves recipes from anywhere and lets you share a meal plan, all free with ads. Bite Club is deliberately narrower. Instead of browsing a huge library, each person sets their Food Vibes, meals are matched to the household with a Club Score, and the family votes. If decision fatigue rather than lack of recipes is the problem, that's where Bite Club helps.

Switching from Plan to Eat

Plan to Eat is a lovely tool if you already have a recipe collection. It doesn't provide recipes or meal plans, and the household shares one login. Bite Club works the other way round: it comes with 3,000+ meals, builds a plan for you in one tap, and everyone joins the Club on their own phone with their own tastes. Your family classics go in as House Meals (by hand, for now).

Why families choose Bite Club

Everyone gets a say

Create your household's Club, share a code, and everyone joins on their own iPhone or iPad.

Tastes for every person, not just the cook

Each person sets their Food Vibes (loves and hard no's), plus Meal Goals like "sneak in more veggies".

Meals scored for your household

Browse 3,000+ meals, each with a Club Score: a percentage match against the whole family's tastes.

Suggest it, vote on it

Spot something tasty, suggest it to the Club, and everyone gets a notification to give it a thumbs up or down.

Your classics are built in

Add House Meals (Gran's lasagne, your Tuesday stir-fry) and mix them into any week.

One tap to plan the week

Takeaway, delivery and eating-out nights included, then grab the shopping list.

Something for the kids

Kids Mode and the Food Passport help younger ones discover new foods.

Bite Bot for when nobody can decide

An optional AI sidekick with a 1-month free trial.

Made by a family, for families

Built by a small UK team and tested in a real (and fussy) household.

What Bite Club deliberately doesn't do

A family meal planner can keep adding things until planning takes longer than cooking. We'd rather stay quick.

  • No calorie counting or macro tracking. It's a family dinner planner, not a diet app.
  • No ads, and no sponsored or affiliate recipes.
  • No social feed, followers or public leaderboard. Your Club is just your household.
  • No hard paywall. Planning, voting and the shopping list are free; Bite Bot is optional.
  • No grocery-store tie-in. We don't push you towards a particular supermarket or delivery service.

And, honestly, what it can't do at the moment

  • Import recipes from websites, other apps or photos. House Meals are added by hand.
  • Android or web. Bite Club is iPhone and iPad only.
  • Grocery delivery. The shopping list is yours to take to any shop.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best Mealime alternative now that Mealime is closing?

It depends on what you used Mealime for. Mealime is moving its recipes to Meals Hub inside Albertsons Companies' grocery apps, which is free and keeps the same recipes. If you want a family planner that isn't tied to a grocery store, Bite Club lets everyone in the house set their tastes, vote on dinner and plan the week in one tap. Mealime doesn't offer an export and Bite Club can't import, so add your favourite meals as House Meals before 21 October.

Are there apps like mise for families?

Yes. mise builds quick weekly plans around your budget, supermarket and diet, and lets you set how many people you're cooking for. If your bigger problem is that everyone at the table likes different things, Bite Club is built around exactly that: individual likes and dislikes, a household Club Score for every meal, and a family vote. Bite Club is free to download.

What's the best meal planner for picky eaters?

Look for an app that stores each person's likes and dislikes, not just one profile for the household. Bite Club does exactly that. Each family member sets their Food Vibes, every meal gets a Club Score showing how well it suits the whole household, and kids can join in through Kids Mode and the Food Passport.

Is there a Paprika alternative for families?

If you mainly need a recipe box, Paprika is excellent, and Paprika 4 (in beta) adds family accounts as part of a new subscription. If you need help deciding what to cook as a family, Bite Club comes with 3,000+ meals, matches them to everyone's tastes and lets the household vote. Bite Club doesn't import recipes from Paprika, but you can add your family favourites as House Meals.

Which meal planner lets the whole family vote on dinner?

Bite Club is built around it. Anyone in your Club can suggest a meal, and everyone gets a notification to give it a thumbs up or down from their own phone.

Is Bite Club free, and is it on Android?

Bite Club is free to download on iPhone and iPad. Bite Bot, the optional AI sidekick, is $5.99 a month (£5.99 in the UK) with a 1-month free trial. There's no Android or web version at the moment.

Can I import my recipes into Bite Club?

Not at the moment. You add your household favourites by hand as House Meals. Most families start with the five to ten dinners they cook most often.
